Jun 2022 - Introducing the new eco-friendly range of Helapet Sterile Sharps Bins
Helapet are pleased to announce a major development in the range of Sterile Sharps Bins. The new "Eco" range of sharps containers are made from at least 40% recycled plastic, assisting the NHS drive to reach Net Zero by 2040.
The new Eco range will conform to HTM07-01 management and disposal of healthcare waste guidelines. This means they are still a standard yellow container with yellow or purple lids for cytotoxic /cytostatic waste. Due to the recycled material, the yellow will be a darker tone in contrast to the current model.
The new eco range of Sterile Sharps Bins contain a minimum of 40% high grade recycled material to help minimise the impact on our environment and the carbon footprint during its manufacture. This also means there is less dependence on crude oils used in the manufacture of virgin plastic.
The new Eco Sharps Bin range is fully compliant with UN 3291 and ISO 23907-1:2019 standards. Having a mainly yellow base with the appropriate coloured lid it is also in line with HTM 07-01 waste segregation guidance. They are also compatible with the same accessories, trolleys, and brackets as the current ones.
The new ECO range of Sterile Sharps Bins will be phased in from June 2022. Current customers will not need to change anything to begin receiving the new bins. Just place your order the usual way using the same product codes.
Reducing the amount of single use plastic is a challenge in our industry but it's one that Helapet embraces. One of our key goals is to incorporate sustainability where possible across all areas of our business operations from facility management to work practices, delivering sustainable solutions that benefit the environment.

Feb 2022 - Charity Giving
During the run up to Christmas, what should be the most joyous time of year can be one of the hardest. So, while most companies purchase greeting cards to wish their customers great joy, we sent our customers personal and digital wishes of joy for the Christmas season and offered the money that would have been used on printed greeting cards to a charity that is close to our team's hearts.
In the recent Christmas of 2021, we donated to the Cynthia Spencer Hospice in Northampton.
We were delighted to hear that our donation could pay all the below:
- 8 visits to a patient from a 'hospice at home' nurse
- A memory box to remember a loved one receiving palliative care
- Transport for a patient get to their appointments
It is important to Helapet that we give back to the community Helapet and its staff belong in. 2021 saw Cynthia Spencer Hospice play an important role in one of our colleague's lives and we wanted to be able to give our thanks for the Hospice's amazing work.
"We really appreciate the support of local businesses throughout the year however, for Helapet to think of us during the festive season was really kind of the team. December marked the end of our 45th year celebrations which have been heavily impacted by the pandemic. The continued support of businesses has been vital ensuring we can continue to care for our patients and support their families too and for this we are certainly thankful. We are always looking to work with new businesses who would like to support the work of the Hospice through volunteering, fundraising, taking part in events and making donations, if anyone would like to hear more about our work, please get in touch".
Nina Gandy, Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser, Cynthia Spencer Hospice
Cynthia Spencer Hospice provides specialist palliative care services for South Northamptonshire. They accept donations via their website https://www.cynthiaspencer.org.uk/donate.
Jan 2022 - Helapet Donates Microscope To Local School
Helapet, leading UK cleanroom consumables company and filter manufacturer, are delighted to present local school, Houghton Regis Academy, with a Euromex Metallurgical Type Microscope, a significantly more advanced scope to be used alongside their own equipment in the Science Lab.
Helapet were conducting one of their regular tours of their manufacturing facility to spot any ways they can improve efficiencies as part of their 5S policy. The microscope was spotted as an unused item that had been languishing in the corner. Its purpose had been to inspect the filtration media used in their filter manufacturing for quality control. It stopped being used when more advanced inspection techniques were adopted. In order to make way for more efficient processes, it was decided to remove the unit and find another owner in a drive to be more environmentally aware.
Helapet has a strong ethos of giving back to their local community so went in search of a worthy school to donate this and were pleased to discover local middle school Houghton Regis Academy, would accept and make use of the microscope. It will be used by students aged 9 to 13 years.
Helapet has recently been awarded the Investors in People - Gold.

Statement from Helapet Ltd
Feb 2020 - Helapet deliver chemical protective apparel for microbiology testing initiative in India
Here at Helapet our company vision, mission and values inform everything we do on a daily basis, including the importance of being "helpful and to provide assistance to customers and colleagues".
Demonstrating our commitment to supporting customer health and protection, we recently responded to a request from a gentleman on his way to Khristiya Seva Niketan Hospital, a small mission hospital in West Bengal, India. The purpose of his visit was to introduce microbiology testing to KSN Hospital's small pathology laboratory, which required some personal protective clothing for his colleagues. We were delighted to assist him and delivered chemical protective Tyvek Lab Coats which were used to protect personnel against accidental spillages of potentially infected material in the microbiology lab. This includes patient samples that might be infected or cultures of pathogenic bacteria that the laboratory staff have cultured.
Having taken receipt of our lab coats, we were delighted to receive a personal thankyou note:
Dear Helapet,
On a wet afternoon on 9th January, I picked up some sample lab coats which you had kindly put to one side for me, to take out to a small mission hospital in India, where I am helping them to introduce microbiology testing in their pathology lab. I thought you might like to see a picture of them being worn. The lady in the middle is one of my colleagues from the UK.
Thank you once again for your generosity.
Yours sincerely
I M

Oct 2015 - A new year, a new beginning
January marks the start of a big change at Helapet Ltd... Managing Director John Blight will be hanging up his jacket and heading off into retirement.
John joined Helapet in October 2005, initially as Operations Manager before being promoted to General Manager in 2009 and then Managing Director in 2012.
Looking back over these last 10 years we have seen some significant changes within Helapet. Our sales have more than doubled, we have seen the introduction of a field based sales team and overall employee numbers have increased. This growth, both in turnover and staff, necessitated the need to move. Whilst we didn't have to relocate far, this was still a major project and included the construction of the new cleanrooms.
With sales on track to reach record levels in 2015, Helapet is being left in a very good position for John's successor.
Replacing John as Managing Director will be Ben Miles from our sister company, Gemini Healthcare Services Ltd. Ben has been working within the CliniMed group of companies since 2003 and has been a Director since 2007 with responsibilities for Marketing, New Product Development and Regulatory Affairs.
We would like to offer both John and Ben our warm congratulations and look forward to continued success in 2016.
